Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo Bill on Tuesday suffered major blow after Members of County Assembly of Kirinyaga voted to reject the Bill.
Majority Leader of the Kirinyaga assembly Kamau Murango tabled the bill before other members.
However, the bill flopped when Murinduko MCA Evans Ndege refused to second it.
“Mr Speaker, I fail to support,” said Ndege as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The lack of a seconder for the bill meant that it will be suspended until six months before being re-tabled again.
Addressing the media at the County headquarters, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru heaped praise on her MCAs for rejecting the Punguza Mizigo Bill.
Waiguru termed the bill as “detrimental to our people."
“I want to thank the County Assembly of Kirinyaga for throwing out the Punguza Mizigo initiative motion. This initiative has a very nice title but it is extremely detrimental to our people,” she said in a press address as quoted by Citizen Digital.
“We have had discussions with the Assembly and many people enlightening them on the importance of ensuring that it does not pass and waiting for the BBI which we think will be taking cognizance of the things we are very concerned about," she added as quoted by Citizen Digital.
However, part of the MCAs led by John Bapstist Kanga cautioned the governor against her early celebrations.
According to Mr Kanga, there are possibilities of the bill being re-tabled even before the elapse of the six months.
