Speaking on Monday after meeting with Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Kisii commissioner Godfrey Kigochi fired warning shots to chiefs saying the recruitment exercise must be free, transparent and fair.

"People with jobs should not be given the census jobs. Locals chiefs should ensure employed people and government officers are not in the list of those being awarded the census jobs. Let jobless graduate youths get the opportunity to do the job," he said.

Kigochi assured local youths that should he come across a civil servant doing the census job, the chiefs from the area will be held responsible.

The commissioner urged civil servants including teachers to b satisfied with their monthly salaries and stop giving blind competition to jobless youths who deserve the census job.

"I can not allow someone earning a salary to take up the census job while jobless youths are idling in the village. So far the complains I have received from a section of youths are being addressed to ensure no employed person is conducting the census job," he added.

He appealed to locals to be available to be counted for the government to plan properly in the provision of services.
