In an exclusive interview with Nation, Kuria said that the relatives of the head of state financed his rivals with the aim of locking him out of the seat. He alleged that 2017 was one of the most difficult years in his career after he fell out with President Kenyatta.

The vocal lawmaker said that his relationship with the President has been frosty because he is always speaking his mind.

"First, forces I believe are from the President’s closest relatives sponsored candidates against me in Gatundu South," he said.

The legislator said that he worked around the clock to deliver on the promises he made to the residents in terms of infrastructure and education among other areas but the Kenyatta family never wanted him to be re-elected.

He also claimed that there was a plot to rig him out of the contest for the Jubilee Party ticket months before the general elections. He, however, said that the people were on his side and he emerged the winner of the contest in the end.

“The 2017 Jubilee nominations were supposed to rig me out despite the fact that I was largely popular," Kuria said.
