Political analyst Philip Chebunet has said that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report could still victimize ODM leader Raila Odinga, despite being part and parcel of it.
Raila, who founded the BBI alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta, has lauded the report, which has proposed among others, the introduction of the Prime Ministerial position.
Chebunet says that judging by suggestions of the BBI taskforce, which says that the Premier will be picked by the president, Raila's path to leadership has not been simplified.
He says that the former Premier might still be seen protesting should he vie and lose in the 2022 polls, as he is not assured of the Prime Ministerial seat either.
"It's the president who will pick the Prime Minister. I, therefore, expect Raila back in the streets if he loses because he will have lost it all if he loses in the presidential race. (Ukiangalia, ni rais atachagua Prime Minister na ministers so natarajia Raila bado ataenda kwa streets kwa sababu akishindwa kwa kura ya urais ameambulia patupu)," he said.
The commentator spoke on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha show on Wednesday.
He added that Raila is very unlikely to ignore the presidential seat for the Premier one, which he said entails a long process and whose outcome is noT guaranteed, as the president might pick another person for the slot.
"He will have to return to Kibra and vie for the parliamentary position if he wants to be the Prime Minister. (Itabidi kama anataka awe Prime Minister arudi Kibra awanie ubunge)," he added.
The BBI report also proposes the introduction of the official opposition leader, which will be filled by the person who emerges second in the presidential race.
The Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji-led BBI taskforce also wants the first runners up in the race to be nominated to Parliament to oversight house business from inside.
