Deputy President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning Kikuyu Benga Singer John De Mathew.
In a series of tweets on Monday, Ruto noted that the late artist used his musical talent to teach the youth in the country various life lessons.
He further eulogised the singer as a sociable and eloquent performer.
“Deep condolences to the family, friends and fans of renowned musician John De Mathew. He used his talent to teach us life lessons and convey socio-economic and cultural messages, especially to the youth,” he said.
The deputy president further noted that the deceased supported may talented and ambitious youths.
“De Mathew mentored many aspiring musicians and campaigned for a platform to empower them. He was artistic, sociable and an eloquent performer. Rest In Peace,” he said.
Reports indicate that the artist lost his life in a grisly road accident at Blue Post, Thika. The accident occurred after the vehicle he was travelling in rammed into a lorry.
Before his demise, De Mathew was among local entertainers who needed no form of introduction in the public domain. Burial arrangements for the deceased are underway.
