"Today, the American soldier is in danger, tomorrow the European soldier could be in danger," Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday.

The warning comes after several countries invoked the dispute resolution mechanism formerly known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The revocation came after western powers accused Iran of violating the nuclear deal.

"In light of the Iranian non compliance with the nuclear agreement, Germany, France and Great Britain have triggered the Dispute Resolution Mechanism within the framework of the #JCPoA, " the German Foreign office said as quoted by Euro News.

This is the first time that the Iranian president has issued direct threats to European countries with  troops in the Middle East.

Tensions between Iran and western powers have escalated following the killing of Qassem Soleimani, the leader of the Quds Force, a unit in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

The European nations have said that Iran has significantly scaled back its commitment to the nuclear deal signed in 2015 under the leadership of former United States of America Barack Obama.
