Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said that he decided to carry stones in Kibra because it was a life-threatening situation.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, Khalwale said that his life was in danger and he had to carry stones to protect himself from goons.
He noted that the situation in Kibra was chaotic to the point that he felt he needed to protect himself.
The former lawmaker, who has pledged support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, said that he is not a coward.
“This was a life-threatening situation and it is unfortunate that the spirit of competition for votes can be reduced to something physical like this…” he said.
On his part, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang criticised Khalwale, saying he is taking the nation back to the stone age period, adding that the politician behaved in an unexpected manner.
He further argued that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) did not cause any form of violence as alluded by their counterparts in the Jubilee party during the by-election in Kibra.
“Whatever happened takes us back to the stone-age quite literally and we should not be seeing such scenes in this time and age," he said.
