Raila who was in Mombasa at the time the MP succumbed to colorectal cancer, was shocked with the news as he planned to board his private plane to come back to Nairobi to check on the MP, who he thought was still alive.

Mr Odinga, had met several infrastructure ministers from different countries in Africa at Mombasa on Friday in his capacity as AU High Representative for Infrastructural Development.

"Yesterday(Thursday) in the morning I went to several functions before flying out to Mombasa. I was hoping to see him when I came back today, then at the airport, I realised that he had passed on. The day before he died I spent one hour looking for him,” a sad Raila revealed.

According to the former Prime Minister, he had looked for Mr Okoth at Nairobi Hospital on Wednesday but he could not find him physically and on phone.

“I spoke to him about a month ago, but the day before he died, I had a bad premonition. I went to look for him at The Nairobi Hospital then I was told that he had been discharged.

Okoth, 41, became forth MP in 12th parliament to succumb to cancer in a period of two years. Francis Nyenze (Kitui West), Ben Oluoch (Migori) and Grace Kipchoim (Baringo South), all died in a quick succession.

Mr Okoth was serving his second term on ODM ticket and is the first MP to serve Kibra, which was partitioned from the larger Lang'ata constituency which Raila served for 20 years since 1992.
