President Uhuru Kenyatta may now go ahead to constitute a panel that will investigate the crisis in Taita Taveta County and make necessary recommendations.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday announced the completion of signature verification, a week after receiving the petition from Uhuru.
IEBC said that the petition met requisite statutory requirements having had over 21,000 registered voters supporting the bid to dissolve the county government.
"The commission has since completed verification exercise and confirms that the petition has been supported by 21,861 registered voters of Taita Taveta County," read IEBC statement.
"This is therefore to notify the public and all stakeholders that the petition has met the required statutory threshold."
Governor Samboja, who recently survived an impeachment motion in the Senate, had vowed to have the county dissolved due to what he termed as 'sabotage'.
MCAs had refused to pass a budget, demanding that Sh800 million be allocated to them as Ward Development Fund, a move rejected by the county boss.
“The road to impeaching a governor is long and winding, it is the one that Samboja is willing to take to the end," county Communications director Denis Onsarigo said.
The dissolution debate is likely to collapse given that on Tuesday, MCAs dropped their hardstand and passed Sh5.7 billion budget for 2019/20.
Samboja, who was elected on a Wiper party ticket, had accused Deputy President William Ruto of allegedly engineering the revolt in County Assembly.
