Angeline Ajwang Ongere chose to honour the Luo tradition after her son was cremated, allegedly without her consent.

Speaking to Citizen TV, MP Okoth's maternal nephew, Elvis Oluoch, said that they were extremely furious at the decision arrived at by few family members.

“We only woke up to the news that Ken has been cremated. Ken’s mum was fully opposed to his cremation and wanted the body to be buried next to her house,” Oluoch said in a video shared by Citizen TV on Facebook.

"She has decided that tomorrow (Sunday) she is going to her rural home to do a ceremony and bury, according to our traditions, a banana stem to show that she had a son and now he is no more," he added.

The Saturday morning private cremation was announced by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna who delivered a statement to newsrooms on Saturday.

“This is to let you know that Hon. Okoth’s remains have been cremated this morning in accordance with his wishes and in the presence of his family. I thank all of you for the support and patience in the course of this journey. May he Rest in peace,” the ODM party wrote on Twitter.

Nominated Nairobi MCA Anne Thumbi has threatened to move back to court to sue the family for not involving her in the process.
