The Rift Valley region is suddenly undergoing self-destruction, a situation that can be attributed to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Until early this year, a majority of politicians from the region largely allied to Deputy President William Ruto had turned Raila into a punching bag.
Every political move and misfortune touching on DP Ruto was blamed on Raila, until he did the most unthinkable on March 9, reached a truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The unexpected move seems to have incapacitated Ruto's allies who now apparently lack a person to attack and have consequently turned against each other.
This can be best explained by the recent faceoff between Cherangany lawmaker Joshua Kuttuny and DP's number one ally and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen after Kuttuny led the rebellious North Rift trio of Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills) and Silas Tiren (Moiben) in bashing the DP over ongoing maize farmers' woes.
Earlier, Murkomen would not pay any attention to such in-house critics and had deployed himself as Ruto's main weapon against Raila.
Also, some of the leaders have also been seen confused on what the handshake really entails, in fear that it might be a plan to reunite the two leaders and block Ruto's presidential bid.
As it seems, details of the March 9 truce remain scanty and has thrown the leaders into complaining and fearing about what they do not even know anything about.
The DP himself seems to be mixed up by the move, and on Thursday last week aligned himself with it when he accompanied Uhuru to Kisumu, Raila's bedrock.
This was just a few months after he opposed the same and even accused Raila of using the handshake to peddle conman-ship into the Jubilee Party.
