Kitui residents have been told to stop clashing with their neighbors from the Somali community.
Kitui county commissioner Samuel Kimiti cautioned the locals against attacking camels belonging to the Somali community whenever they invade their farms.
Kimiti said the residents should seize the attacks to avoid tribal clashes and confrontations.
He warned the locals against taking the law into their lands stating that the act will only fuel more conflicts between the two tribes.
" Please stop attacking Somali camels when they invade your farms. Just report to the authorities and we will take action instead of attacking the camels," Samuel said.
Kimiti addressed the press in Kitui town on Monday.
People living in Kitui-Tana River county border has been fighting for years now over natural resources.
According to the residents, the clashes begin mostly when a dispute occurs over watering and grazing areas by the two communities living in the border.
"We have a problem with the Somali people. They hack our people and drive them out of their homes just to graze and use the available resources," said resident Kiilu Mutua.
The residents also urged the county government to Make sure they have enough security to avoid such clashes.
They said the Charity Ngilu led administration should tell Somali residents to keep off farms.
"We urge the government to give us enough security and make sure the Somalis don't let their animals destroy our farms," said another resident Kaseo Kioko.
