The government on Sunday announced the release of Sh4.37 billion for payment to beneficiaries of Inua Jamii programmes.
In a statement released to the media by Social Protection PS Nelson Marwa, the government is committed to supporting the programme. The funds have been wired through the Ministry of Labour.
Out of the released funds, Sh1,094,045 will be paid to the beneficiaries starting Monday.
The beneficiaries of the programme are only those who own bank accounts under the Consolidated Cash Transfer Programme (CCTP).
Marwa said that the government has put in place various measures to ensure that the process of disbursing the cash is effective.
"The Ministry has undertaken various reforms towards ensuring efficient and effective service delivery to beneficiaries. In the new payment model, beneficiaries and caregivers can access their funds within six months after the money is credited to their accounts,” said Marwa.
Statistics show that a total of 295,307 beneficiaries are set to benefit from the programme after the government announced the release of the funds to the docket.
The beneficiaries include orphans, vulnerable persons and the older persons.
A total of Sh3,059,600,000 will be paid to the older persons whereas Sh1, 181,348,000 has been allocated to children and orphans.
