In a tweet on Thursday, the former lawmaker said that guards play an immense role as far as guarding this nation is concerned. He asked leaders and the general public to support the government following the adoption of the new rules.

“I fully support the arming of security guards. The idea is long overdue. Private Security Firms must respond by regular security training to their guards, hiring preference for NYS graduates, better pay & insisting on certificates of good conduct,” he tweeted.

On Friday Interior Affairs Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, unveiled new rules in regard to arming of the guards. The guards have also been provided with an opportunity to take up formal jobs including quelling riots. The guards will also be provided with armoured cars.

Matiang’i also revealed the plan to remove police officers from some of the areas including ICT in order to pave way for the guards to take up these jobs once they are armed.

“Be ready to arm your guards because we will withdraw officers from some of these jobs like CIT,”  Matiang’i said.

The move has already started to elicit mixed reactions from different quarters.
