Grade 3 Assessment and the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) is going on well in Uasin Gishu County.
According to Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Gitonga Mbaka, the exercise started on Tuesday in all primary schools in the county and no hitches have been reported.
“This assessment is not an exam which will be ranked, it is only meant to establish whether the learners have exceeded, met or failed to meet expectations to enable teachers to identify areas to focus on for the benefit of the children,” said Mbaka.
He spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday.
“It will also identify gaps so that teachers can address those gaps in the required interventions. We will also know the skills and knowledge they have acquired in grade three of their learning,” the County Director of Education added.
He reiterated that during the assessment teachers don’t invigilate but only give advice and guidance where they require support and the time table is only to guide when the assessment will start.
“The assessment will also establish where there are gaps that need to be looked into for the children to perform well,” he added.
There is no set time as to the time the pupils will finish the exam and he or she can take as long as he or she can until he finishes.
The assessment which started on Tuesday is expected to end on Friday.
