Doctors in Kisumu County have finally called off their strike which lasted for 23 days.
The doctors went on strike on December 06, in a bid to push for the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed in 2017.
In a statement by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Nyanza Chapter seen by Hivisasa, the strike has been called off with doctors urged to resume work within 48 hours.
Among the issues, doctors were pushing for during the strike is promotion, an issue the County government has now addressed.
“Effectively, doctors have been promoted to their correct job groups. 26 doctors have been scheduled for suitability interviews from 20th to 24th January as a requirement for further promotions and a further 31 doctors on probation will be confirmed by the County Public Service Board within the first quarter of 2020,” reads part of the statement signed by KMPDU Nyanza Branch Dr Omweri Lameck.
The doctors who have been promoted will pick their promotion letters on Monday, December 30, 2019, at the Kisumu County’s Health Department offices.
The doctors will not be victimized as a result of taking part in the strike. They will also be paid their salaries. The doctors’ strike had paralyzed provision of medical services in public hospitals in Kisumu County.
