Any government official authorizing new projects without completion of the existing ones will be held responsible, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.
His latest directive could be a blow to Deputy President William Ruto who has been launching a series of new projects across the country.
Speaking on Friday at KICC where he met senior government officials, Uhuru defended his decision saying that it will regulate wastage of taxpayers money.
"There will be no new projects that will be embarked on until you complete those that are ongoing,” said the President.
He said projects that might be exempt from the freeze will be only those that are directly aligned to the Big Four Agenda but even then there must be a written authorisation from the National Treasury.
“Even if new projects are aligned to the Big Four they cannot be started without express authority from CS or PS of the National Treasury," reports The Standard.
Lately Jubilee government has been embroiled in internal wrangles with a section of Uhuru's supporters accusing DP Ruto of engaging in early campaigns.
And in return, Ruto's supporters have accused Uhuru's handlers of working secretly to undermine the DP in 2022 succession battle.
Recently, the DP has toured Coast, Western, Northern Kenya where he has launched various projects.
The new order may greatly negatively impact on the DP who has been using government projects to position himself for 2022 race.
