He argued that it doesn’t make sense to give guns to persons who are being underpaid and expect them to offer the public with security during hard times.

This is after The Private Security Regulatory Authority CEO Fazul Mahamud said that the guards will be allowed to start owing guns in the next six months, a statement that has not augured well with the senator.

“Arming security guards like tantamount to throwing caution to the wind. It’s populism without boundaries,” he said through his Twitter account.

Private security guards manning public places will be trained and vetted before they are allowed to carry the guns.

While speaking at the Nairobi Railways Club where all senior supervisors and managers of security firms met, Fazul said that arming all the guard will ensure all Kenyans are safe.

He said that they are considering the proposal before implementation after the Dustin D2 attack that left 21 dead and scores with injuries.  Fazul also said that private security firms play an immense role in the fight against crime.
