As Kenyans await the unmasking of Rongo University College student Sharon Otieno’s killers, the man who discovered her lifeless body inside the Kodera forest, Homa Bay county has spoken out for the first time.

The man identified as Moses Ongili said that he froze upon seeing the bloody body of the deceased. He also said that he is living in fear after the discovery since the killers might come for him as well. 

He declined to speak to journalists after they visited his home in Ogero village. Homa Bay County. Ongili said that he can only talk to strangers in the presence of police officers for the sake of his security. 

The man said that he discovered the bloody body of the student, whose postmortem results revealed was murdered, at around 3.30 pm when he was driving his cattle home.

He had to confirm whether it was a prey or dangerous animal at the scene before he tip toed there. Ongili, a peasant farmer, said that the scene was scary as the student, who was seven months pregnant, lay naked and isolated.

“It was ghastly. I felt my body freeze in shock. She lay naked, facing down,” he said.

Ongili added that he ran away in fear that the killers could be around. 

Upon arriving at his home, Ongili records that he tied the animals before rushing to Oyugis Police Station where he recorded a statement.  

“I then rushed home, tied my cattle and went to Oyugis Police Station where I recorded a statement,” he added.

Ongili then returned to the scene with an undisclosed number of police officers who transferred the body to Rachuonyo South Sub-county Hospital mortuary. 

Migori County Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant Michael Juma Oyamo has since been arrested in relation to the murder. 

Oyamo, who will remain in custody until Monday, is accused of luring Nation journalist Barack Oduor and Sharon Beryne Otieno before the later was found dead.
