The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday confirmed that three G3 rifles stolen from slain police officers in Marsabit have been recovered.
The guns were found along Jaldesa-Shurr Road.
According to the DCI, the three police officers met their death during an attack on November 6 while exchanging fire with the assailants at a watering point.
Ten herders were also murdered during the attack.
"THREE G3 Rifles stolen after three Police Officers were on 6th November, 2019 killed by a group of Assailants at Jaldesa in Marsabit while trying to protect Locals were today recovered along Jaldesa-Shurr Road. During the attack, 10 Herders were also murdered & cattle stolen," a statement from DCI read.
Marsabit Governor Mohamud Mohamed claimed shortly after the attack that 800 animals were stolen.
On Friday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i gave a 24-hour ultimatum to any firearm holder to surrender the guns to the police officers. The ultimatum elapsed on Saturday.
From the incident, all regional and local top security officers met at the county headquarters to plan on the disarmament process.
Marsabit residents have, however, launched complaints against the security officers citing that they were using excessive force.
