Nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda now says that the runaway corruption in the country is to blame for the worsening economic times.
Speaking on Saturday, the lawmaker said that the situation is to blame on the theft of public coffers by some state officers, with the effects being felt more by common citizens.
He claimed that its the alleged thieves who are going around dishing the stolen money to Kenyans, which he said calls for serious mechanisms to tame the graft menace.
"When you hear Kenyans complaining that they don't have money, is because it's in the hands of a few people who are going around the country with it," he said.
Kamanda made the remarks during a press briefing at the Engineer Catholic Church in Ol Kalou in Nyandarua county.
He noted that the fate of Kenyans now lie in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional amendment push, which he said can be of great help in battling graft.
Kamanda, a big supporter of the proposed changes, noted that the BBI if used to hand more powers to the agencies involved in the fight against corruption, will save the nation.
"We are eagerly awaiting the BBI so that it can strengthen the institutions given the role of fighting corruption," he added.
