Uasin Gishu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have hit out at Roads CeC Gideon Birir over allegations of denying them fuel to be used for road construction.
Addressing journalists at the County Assembly premises on Thursday, the MCAs said it's sad that the CeC only gives fuel for vehicles used by other CeCs and not road construction machines which are needed in the grassroots.
“In the grassroots, we are called people with no fuel yet we have 200 vehicles that carry CeCs, CEOs and directors which are fueled daily. Why are they discriminating heavy vehicles yet they are the ones that are supposed to work at the grassroots,” said Cheptiret/ Kapchamo Ward MCA Gilbert Tenai.
“When CeCs want to go for funerals, church service or harambees there is fuel but when we want to construct roads we lack fuel. Is this really logical?” asked Huruma MCA Peter Chomba.
Kimumu MCA added that they have nothing to show to the electorates since roads are in pathetic condition and the machines are not operating due to lack of fuel.
However, CeC Birir said that they were experiencing a shortage of fuel, adding that they have now procured 50,000 litres of fuel. The CeC noted that the heavy vehicles will now be given priority following the procurement of the fuel.
Birir assured the MCAs that the construction works at the grassroots will go on since they have enough fuel.
