The arrest of Jubilee MCA Fred Omayio over alleged defilement of a school girl has attracted sharp reactions from a section of Nyamira leaders.
Mr Omayio, who is serving his second term as Magwagwa MCA, is accused of eloping with a Kisumu Girls Form 4 girl before locking her in a Kisii hotel.
County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the incident, adding that police are still investigating the matter before arraigning him on Monday.
"He is in police custody and currently we are doing investigations. He shall be arraigned on Monday," Mariba told reporters.
Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi condemned the incident, adding that she is keen to see the girl getting justice in court.
"I am condemning the incident. We must have morals as leaders. It's unfortunate that a school girl can end up to someone who should be guiding her," she said.
Kenya Social Congress leader Atati Kengere said the incident is shocking, adding that there is need for justice to be given to the minor by authorities.
"She says the MCA abducted and took her forcefully. We have laws and they must take course. Let them get justice. Very unfair indeed."
Similar sentiments were shared by aspiring North Mugirango MP Dr Janet Komenda, who asked the state to ensure justice is not delayed.
The parents to the girls had taken her to Ekerenyo Hospital where defilement was confirmed by doctors. She went missing on September 2nd when schools opened.
