The money crisis facing the Kenya Premier League teams has no signs of ending soon after Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) become the latest sponsor to exit the cold room.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Chairperson Laban Jobita of western Stima confirmed that Kenya Power had quitted its sponsorship program after withdrawing all sporting activities in its diary.
"I can only confirm that Kenya Power has withdrawn all sports sponsorship from its diary. I am not in a position to divulge more details as at now,’’ said Jobita.
Western Stima is currently at position seven in the league table and has enjoyed the KPLC sponsorship for a long time.
Jobita admitted that the KPLC withdrawal means a lot to the team as they will now start to carter for money to attend matches on their own.
This is not the first time teams playing in the KPL are suffering. On 10th August 2019, A giant betting company Sportpesa withdrew from sponsoring the KPL teams sighting harsh environment to conducts its businesses and suppressions from the government.
The government had blocked its operations by disabling its pay bill numbers. It admitted that this move had drastically affected their businesses but promised that they will continue with the sponsorship program immediately the government allows them to continue with the operations normally, a dream that saw no light.
