According to court papers seen by the Standard, the accused identified by initials AMM tried to rape his mother on the morning of September 17, after a slight altercation.

The papers indicate that the altercation began after the mother picked some of the logs he was chopping at their homestead with the intention of using it to cook lunch.

This, the 45-year-old did, after the suspect who had been cutting down trees and leaving with the logs to an unknown location had left with a batch of the logs.

When he returned, he sought to know why his logs were missing, after which its said he picked a fight with the mother, threatening to hit her with a hammer.

The court was told the AMM pulled down his mother's skirt saying that he was ready to serve a jail term for raping her, which saw her scream for help from villagers.

The accused was nabbed by community policing personnel and taken to Isulu Patrol Base, resulting in his arraignment in court for attempted rape charges.

He appeared before Kakamega Senior Principal Magistrate Hazel Wanders where he also denied claims of caressing his mothers privates.

He was released on a Sh100,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount, with the case set to be mentioned on October 3 and heard the next day.
