ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna has claimed that deputy president William Ruto could not be assassinated because that was no longer an acceptable way of dealing with political competitors in Kenya.
While speaking at Citizen TV live interview on Monday, Sifuna opined that killing of political competitors to eliminate competition by other contenders was strongly not acceptable in Kenya anymore.
The live interview was updated by Citizen TV on their official Facebook page.
Sifuna argued that in the past, incidences of killing popular politicians had given the country a bad name.
He insisted that assassination was never an option to reduce competition in political space in the country.
"I do not think we have a place for elimination of political competitors through such means. We have a very bad history in this country and we would not want us to go back to the days where physical elimination was an option," observed Sifuna.
Nairobi county ex-gubernatorial hopeful took issue with the country's democratic space, that had allowed citizens to go to an extent of electing unsuitable leaders to lead them.
However, he expressed his optimism that Kenyans were going to make a wise decision in electing an able leader in the coming elections.
He said, "We know that democracy at its purest means that you can actually elect the devil himself but I have faith in Kenyans to be able to decipher who can and cannot be elected as the President."
DP Ruto's assassination allegations are still under probe.
