The male lion was captured by KWS rangers at Hellsgate National Park in Naivasha on Wednesday.

The lion is suspected to be part of a pack of lions that escaped from Lake Nakuru National Park a few months ago.

The KWS had dispatched a team of officers to track down the stray lions after they escaped from the Park.

The lions which are suspected to have killed thousands of livestock in Eburru, Soysambu and Moi Ndabi areas, just recently attacked and killed three herds of cattle in Narasha area and injured six others.

Two leopards suspected of killing tens of goats and sheep in a village in Naivasha were also captured earlier by KWS rangers in Maraigushu area of Naivasha and driven back to the national park.

A senior KWS officer who is not authorized to speak to the press confirmed the capture of the lion saying that they are working round the clock to recapture the other stray lions that were spotted in the area.

“We are in the process of tracking the other lions which have been spotted around Narasha area while the two leopards were released back to Hellsgate National Park,” said the officer as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.

An elder in the village, Joshua Gitau, called on KWS to find a solution saying that the wild animals have for years terrorized them by attacking their livestock adding that affected families should be compensated.

“We have lost tens of livestock to leopards attack but no single family has been compensated and its time KWS addressed this,” said Gitau.
