Moi was taken ill on Monday morning before he was rushed to the facility for checkup. This is the second time the retired president is undergoing treatment in a period of two weeks.

Kenyans have raised concern over his health and prayed for his recovery. Moi's long-serving Press Secretary, Lee Njiru, has, however, allayed fears that the health of the retired head of state is critical.

"It is true [that] Mzee Moi went to Nairobi Hospital today (Monday) but it [was for] a routine medical check-up,” he said.

He added: “It is prudent and advisable that everybody should go for medical check-up, so Mzee Moi went for a medical check up.”

It remains unclear how long More Moi will remain at the facility after Njiru said that they were waiting for the feedback from his physician, Dr David Silverstein.

Njiru also said that Moi, who ruled the nation for more than two decades, will be discharged once his condition stabilizes.

Leaders from different parts of Kenya have also wished him well.
