2017 Turbo parliamentary seat candidate for Jubilee party Kevin Okwara has hit out at Deputy President William Ruto over his support for Kibra aspirant McDonald Mariga in the upcoming mini polls.
Okwara wonders why the DP is putting so much effort campaigning for Mariga in Kibra yet he never campaigned for him in Turbo, his backyard, during the 2017 general elections.
The Eldoret businessman lost the seat to an independent candidate, Janet Sitienei, despite having been a Jubilee candidate.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Sunday, Okwara said despite him being a Jubilee party candidate, no one, including DP Ruto, supported him during the campaigns.
“I campaigned alone in Turbo amidst a lot of difficulties and hostility yet those today telling Mariga and the Luhya community in Kibra that we are together never at any one time called, assisted or supported my campaigns,” he said.
“I was abandoned and ostracized by the entire Uasin Gishu Jubilee brigade and they said that is Ruto’s 'bedroom'. All machinery was put in place to protect the seat including summoning the entire community leaders across the region,” he added.
Okwara noted that Jubilee aspirants and leaders coming from far and wide were sent to campaign against him and wondered what has changed and they are now supporting a Luhya candidate in Kibra.
He also wondered how the same people who were against him being elected in ‘Ruto’s bedroom’ are in Kibra wanting to take over Raila’s 'bedroom'.
Kibra by-election is slated for November 7 where Imran Okoth of ODM, Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga and Eliud Owalo of ANC among others will be competing for the seat.
