As he slows emerges as Deputy President William Ruto's main man in Mombasa ahead of the next general election, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali's dream to be a great man among Kenyan politicians comes true.
Perhaps as he reflects on his days as the country's most respected investigative journalist, it must be appearing to him that God loves him after all.
After nearly a decade at the heart of Kenyan journalism, he made up his mind to help the country in different capacity. And yes, he was joining politics.
In the shadow of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho whose political destiny is already written in history, Ali is forced to master the game of politics very fast, lest his political career will be curtailed even before take off.
And during the ODM nominations, he would lose to Said Abdalla,a Joho relative. But not losing focusing, he made a move that would later shape up his political destiny- dumping the orange party.
While vying as an independent candidate, Ali made a political statement as he trounced Abdalla who was backed the who-is-who in Mombasa and Kenyan politics.
The seed was planted. It germinated. And now the seedling is spreading its roots.
Now a Ruto disciple, the former scribe has now gained his muscle under the DP. And as his key foot soldier, Dr Ruto has true general, who is equally keen to spread his own wings.
By advancing the DP's agenda while using his name which is already a political brand in the country, Ali now appears like someone who has been in the game for a long time.
May be he has realized that in Kenyan politics, only the brave survive.
Thus said, the political toddler of 2017 is now a master operator. Right him off at your own peril. Is he the new buffalo at the heart of Coast?
