National Guns Owners Association of Kenya chairman Anthony Wahome has lauded the inspector general of police Hillary Mutyambai's move to recall misused firearms.
Wahome on Tuesday stated that having a firearm doesn't give anyone a license to kill.
While commenting on gun drama involving Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, Wahome termed the incident unwarranted stating that he didn't see why the lawmaker had to use his gun.
He observed that according to the CCTV footage there was no imminent danger posed in the legislator.
"It was quite an unfortunate incident in the sense that I did not see any imminent danger for use If a firearm. It was not present at least from what we saw in the CCTV footage from the club," he told Captial FM.
Wahome went ahead to laud move by police to withdraw bodyguards of VIPs with criminal charges saying that the order showed no one was above the law.
"It's a step in the right direction and the message was clear that in as much as the national Police Service is charged with maintaining the law and order, they cannot be the ones protecting those breaking the law," he said.
He urged licensed firearm holders to exercise restraint when using them.
He advised them to make sound decisions before using their weapons and use their weapons only when their life is under threat.
He confirmed that the agency and the government are working on measures to sensitize gun holders on proper handling a bid to avert future cases where the gadgets are abused.
