In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Starehe legislator said that he would donate 200 mattresses to the Industrial Area Prison, where remandees awaiting outcomes of their cases are held.

He added, to hilarious effect, that Babu Owino would get to sleep on a comfortable mattress as he waits for a court of law to grant him bail.

"Today I will donate over 200 mattresses to Industrial Area Prison, Starehe. I believe that remandees should be as comfortable as possible as they await the outcome of their cases. My colleague, Hon. Babu Owino, will benefit from one of the heavy-duty mattresses," the governing Jubilee legislator wrote on Facebook as quoted by the Star newspaper.

The Embakasi East MP is currently being held at the Industrial Area Prison where he is being remanded until next week when his bail application will be considered.

He was arrested last week by the police following a shooting at the B Club in which a DJ identified as Felix Orinda sustained a gunshot wound in the neck and is currently undergoing medical treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
