Political analyst Mark Bichachi has called upon residents of Kibra constituency to be extra careful when making their pick in the forthcoming parliamentary by-election.
Kibra is headed for an election to fill the vacant seat left after the death of former holder Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer in July, with tens of aspirants expressing interest.
Speaking on KTN on Sunday, the commentator warned the electorate against electing people on bases that they can hold nice reggae concerts or play international soccer.
"I do not know whether the ability to play international football is going to bear for the people of Kibera. I don't know whether the ability to hold very nice reggae concerts will come to bear. Do not go for brand names," he said.
This was apparently in reference to ODM's Kriss Darlin who is a reggae deejay and former Harambee Stars midfielder McDonald Mariga who have also been associated with the race.
Instead, he urged to elect people on the basis of their performance abilities and not their names, observing that the name alone will not be of any benefit to them.
"There is a danger here that the people of Kibera need to be warned about, the name is not more important than the leadership skill," he added.
Initially, there were claims that Gor Mahia striker Dennis Oliech was also interested in the seat, claims he has since rubbished, saying that he would have gone for Dagoretti North instead.
