Lemorukai takes over from Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok who was kicked out by the National Executive Council (NEC) during a retreat in Nakuru County.

Lemorukai on Friday said that he will play a major role in revamping the party, noting that it had been experiencing some confusion which he will help iron out.

He said that he will identify loyal members to be allocated positions that have been vacant for too long, further promising to revive its structure from the grassroot level.

"The party lacked proper structures and management despite residents' support. I will strategise in consultation with the national leadership and ensure positions that have remained vacant for too long, after some officials defected to other parties, are given to loyal members," he told the Nation.

He also assured the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga of Turkana region's continued support and peace among party members on the ground.

The lawmaker also insisted that the changes will not erode his support for Nanok, but warned that he will be ready to criticize him if he fails.

"Just like I supported him during the campaign for his re-election, I will continue supporting him for the good plans he has for residents," he added.

He also promised to use his new position to fight for the rights of Turkanas and to ensure that local politicians do not take advantage of the party, only to ditch it after securing seats.
