A 65-year-old man has committed suicide at his home in Kwa Mwaura area in Laikipia East Sub-County, Laikipia County, after reportedly realising that he is suffering from cancer.
Tabathia Mugambi who was screened on Thursday hanged himself later in the day after the tests came out positive.
The incident was confirmed by Laikipia county police boss Maxwell Nyaema, who, however, could not confirm the type and stage of cancer the deceased was suffering from.
He added that the elderly man left a suicide note behind explaining the reason behind his actions, directing that the death should not be blamed on his wife.
"The note was found in his house, some 200 metres from Kalalu shopping centre. He wrote that his wife Teresia Kabariti Nyokabi should not be asked anything concerning his death because he did it himself," he said.
The police boss said that the body was discovered by his nephew Charles Maina who found it hanging from the roof in the man's house and notified the police.
The body was taken to the Nanyuki Referral Hospital morgue awaiting a pathological test.
This comes at a time when the disease is causing a national fear, especially after it claimed the lives of two notable political figures within three days.
The disease has since claimed the lives of former Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso and Kibra MP Ken Okoth, both of whom died last month.
