Residents of Gitunduti village in Mathira East, Nyeri County were shocked to discover the body of a man on Monday morning dumped near a students’ hostels.

Confirming the incident, area OCPD James Barasa said area residents found the body of the 24-year-old man identified as Patrick Kario dumped near Karatina University.

Barasa said they have launched investigations into the incident, adding that officers are still trying to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the man.

The police suspect that the man who is a casual labourer was murdered elsewhere then the killers ferried the body to the scene.

The OCPD said the deceased’s parents positively identified him saying that they last saw him at home on Saturday night.

“The place where the body was dumped doesn’t appear like the place he was murdered because there was no sign of struggle but investigations will reveal more into the incident. His parents identified him and said they saw him the previous night at 11pm but they did not know where he went,” said Barasa as quoted by the Standard.

The body which was taken to Karatina Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem had a deep cut in the neck and the wound was stuffed with mud.

Kibet Ngeleiyo, a Criminology student in Karatina University said they were shocked to see the body near the hostels which had a carrier bag with fruits beside it.

“It was such a shocking scene. We have never seen anything like this in this area,” said Ngeleiyo.
