Retired President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi’s 24-year rule was characterized by political machinations and drama.
It is recorded that the retired commander in chief of the armed forces was once slapped by the most infamous senior police officers.
The story dates back to the 1970s when Moi was still serving as the Vice President to the late founding father of the Nation Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
The then commander in chief of the armed forces was forced to the sing to the tune of the so-called Kiambu mafia who wanted him to remain loyal to the Presidency.
Mr Lee Njiru, the long-serving press secretary of retired President Moi, however, dismissed claims that Mr James Mungai, a senior police commandant did such an act.
Njiru said that the news was fake and asked Kenyans to ignore the same for the sake of historical records. In his book, Moi: The Making of an African Statesman, British author Andrew Morton alleged that Mungai had slapped Moi twice.
He wrote, “on two occasions, Mungai slapped Mr Moi in the face in front of President Kenyatta at State House Nakuru.”
Moi’s allies demanded the arrest and detention of the Rift Valley Police boss following the altercation at State House.
