On Sunday, Oguna asked Kenyans not to listen to propaganda from politicians to disrupt the exercise. He reminded Kenyans that the census exercise is not political but meant for purposes of planning.

“Kenyans must know that this is a statistical exercise and not a political exercise. So let everyone stay wherever he or she is and the census officials will come,” he said, as quoted by Standard.

Oguna also asked Kenyans to remain patient and give enumerators time to conduct the exercise in an accurate manner.

He noted that the exercise, which commenced on Saturday and expected to run until August 31, will help the nation on matters of planning.

The government spokesperson also said that they have put in place different measures to ensure that the exercise runs smoothly. He said that the exercise will be conducted in an accurate manner to ensure the correct data is collected at the end of the day.

“Some Kenyans have already panicked because they did not see the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) officials on Saturday, but they will come, there is today, tomorrow until August 31 so let’s be patient,” Oguna said.

Kenyans have already started to raise concern over the slow progress of the counting exercise.
