Kiambu Youth Affairs and Sports Executive has cautioned world marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge against venturing into politics.
Kipchoge on Saturday made history when he became the first human to run a marathon in under two hours.
In a race dubbed INEOS 1.59 Challenge held in Vienna, Austria, the marathon world record holder took one hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds to run a 42-kilometre distance.
In his congulatulatory message, Karungo said Kipchoge, who has become the talk of the town following the historic victory, should not assume his success in athletics could help him if he tries his hand in politics.
In a tweet on Sunday, the Sports Member of County Executive Committee (CEC) said the same Kenyans who were now heaping Kipchoge with praises would be same who would reject him at the ballot.
"The whole world came to a stand still because of your efforts Eliud Kipchoge. Everyone want to be associated with you. Try running for a POLITICAL SEAT, the same us will effortlessly rarua (tear apart) you like crazy," Karungo posted.
In the list of athletes turned politicians are former Boston marathon champions Elijah Langat and Wesley Korir.
Langat, who won the race in 2000, served as Member of Parliament for Chemusi Constituency in Nandi County for two terms.
Korir, the 2012 Boston marathon champion, was the MP for Cherang'any from 2013 to 2017.
The two marathoners failed to return to the National Assembly after they were floored in Jubilee Party primaries.
Among those who have made unsuccessful attempts in politics include; former marathon world record holder and 2017 Tokyo marathon winner Wilson Kipsang and former 800m Olympics champion Wilfred Bungei.
In 2017, Kipsang lost his Keiyo South parliamentary bid while Bungei was floored in Emgwen Constituency.
