Opposition leader Raila Odinga who doubles up as AU special envoy for infrastructure has appealed to the entire continent to focus on DR Congo, saying it is where the engine for the cradle of mankind lies.
In a statement issued shortly after his infrastructure inspection and tour of Zongo II in DRC, the ODM leader stated that the engine of Africa lies in the country which he believes has massive resources to propel the continent to greater stability.
"The engine of Africa sleeps in the DRC. With the new discovery of Inga 8 and 10, the hydropower project stands stipulated to produce 110,000MW of power. This asserts Inga as the number 1 energy project on the continent we therefore must take full ownership of the project as a continent and contribute to see its success," Raila's statement read in part.
Raila during the weekend held talks in Kinshasa with President Felix Tshisekedi of DRC on the construction of the Kinshasa- Brazzaville bridge that is part of the Tripoli- Cape Town Trans Africa Highway.
The two leaders also discussed the Inga Dam whose completion, Raila noted, is critical to powering the continent.
Raila's DRC tour came shortly after he made a similar visit to his home turf, Kisumu County, in the company of senior government officials.
The Kisumu visit was poised as a working tour of different projects that are aimed at revamping the county’s economic base to improve the lives of it’s residents.
