The Department of Medical Services in Lamu County will get a lions' share of funds in the 2019/2020 Financial Year budget if the County Assembly approves proposals passed during the County Fiscal Strategy Paper meeting that was held this week.

The department will get whooping Ksh1 billion, followed by Lands and Education departments respectively.

According to the county's head of medical services Dr Abubakar Badawy, the Coastal County seeks to propel Jubilee Government's Big Four Agenda besides implementing Governor Fahim Twaha's manifesto which puts health sector as top priority.

Dr Badawy disclosed that the move will also help to tackle cases of maternal death whereby Lamu County is ranked number 15 as one of the counties with highest number of maternal deaths.

Lamu County Fiscal Strategy Paper meeting which ended on Wednesday (January 16), brought together several county departmental heads and stakeholders under the leadership of the Finance Department.

Proposals raised in the meeting will be presented to Governor Twaha before being presented to the County Assembly for debate and approval at the end of February this year.
