The President Uhuru Kenyatta-led government is not well prepared in the fight against cancer, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said.
In an interview on NTV's AM Alive show on Monday, Khalwale said that there is more to be done to deal with cases of cancer in the country following the demise of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore.
He noted that the government needs to invest more resources into the health sector in order to curb increasing cases of cancer among Kenyans of different ages. The former Ford Kenya deputy leader said that the case of Bob Collymore shows how millions of Kenyans are suffering in silence at their homes.
“The answer is with the government deciding to fund universities and hospitals. The government is not investing enough in our doctors, it looks like no one is listening to them,” he said.
In his tribute to Collymore, Khalwale said that the death of the Safaricom CEO has shocked millions of Kenyans. He eulogised Collymore as a man who was dedicated and committed to service delivery.
“This death has touched everybody and we are united in grief,” he said.
Collymore is expected to be cremated today in a private ceremony.
