A primary school teacher has been arraigned before a Mombasa court to answer to charges of sexually assaulting two pupils.
Elphas Mukangali has been accused of allegedly sodomising two boys during a private tuition session.
The accused person is said to have committed the offence on April 26, this year at Kizingo area in Mombasa.
According to the prosecution, the accused was providing private tuition to the minors after school hours.
The management of the private school where he was suspected to be working has denied that the suspect is their employee.
Mukangali had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges of sodomising the minors and in his defence told the court he was caning the students for not doing their assignments when he accidentally rubbed their buttocks.
He has, however, changed his mind and denied the charges before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Rabera and filed an application to be released on bond.
Rabera dismissed his bond application saying that he is likely to interfere with the minors since he has a close relationship with them.
The magistrate further said that the accused person might be attacked by the victims' parents and relatives if released on bond.
“The suspect will remain in custody until the evidence of the two minors are taken. The court concurs with the prosecution’s argument that the suspect is likely to interfere with the minors,” said Rabera.
The court ordered Mukangali to be detained in police custody until July 5 when the case will be mentioned.
