Speaking on Wednesday, he termed this as the reason behind Raila's discomfort with Deputy President William Ruto's generosity and heavy involvement in charitable initiatives.

Raila and team have repeatedly been questioning the source of Ruto's funds, claiming that it could be proceeds of graft, and have also drafted a bill to tame fundraiser contributions.

But Weda had branded Raila the High Priest of Stinginess, saying that he and his team have no moral authority to question Ruto's contributions to the church.

"I don't like how they keep attacking the Deputy President over his donations to the church when they are the high priests of stinginess," he said on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation show on Wednesday morning.

Weda who doubles up as an advocate of the High Court also accused the opposition fraternity of misusing Raila's 2018 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He observed that they risk making it irrelevant since they have turned it into a weapon against the Deputy Head of State, thanks to their unending attacks on him.

"I support the handshake but I have issues with it because they are using it to attack the Deputy President. But I support it to the extent that it has brought some calm," he added.

Raila and team have also been discouraging churches against taking contributions from politicians who cannot account for it, in an apparent shot at the DP.
