The handshake is a political truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga sealed on March 9, 2018.

However, despite the debate having dominated the media headlines ever since, the poll indicates that 25 percent of the respondents are yet to hear about it.

According to the poll results released on Tuesday, and conducted between April 15 and 18, Western Kenya region comes second on unawareness of the truce.

The statistics on Western Kenya stands at 16 percent while 15 percent of the respondents from Eastern region also admitted being in the dark.

In total, 12 percent or respondents nationally admitted not being aware of the same, according to the findings, as was seen by the Standard.

At the same time, North Eastern and Nyanza regions led among those feeling positive effects of the handshake at 7 and 6 percent respectively.

The handshake has been hailed by majority if notable political figures has the much needed remedy to the political animosity that emerged after Uhuru's 2017 reelection.

However, it has as well been facing questions from a section of others, especially those allied to Deputy President William Ruto who observe it as an anti-Ruto plot ahead of the 2022 polls.
