Parents and students from Fafi constituency in Garissa county can heave a sigh of relief following the launch of Sh30 million bursary funds on Saturday.
Area MP Abdikarim Osman who launched the bursary at Alinjugur Secondary School grounds noted that the kitty would support at least 1913 students drawn from universities and secondary schools.
"I launched a Ksh30M bursary kitty from the Fafi Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at Alinjugur. The fund that I distributed will benefit a total of 1913 students; 601 in higher learning institutions and 1312 in secondary schools," the MP later posted on his Facebook page.
In a show of commitment to supporting education in the constituency, the MP further disclosed that he had increased the funds allocated to the kitty from Sh25 million in the 2017/ 2018 financial year to the current peg of Sh30 million.
"The allocation for the financial year 2017/18 was Ksh25M that benefitted 1500 students, so we have resolved to increase it by Sh5 million more," the vocal legislator added.
With the increased funding and allocation, Fafi students in schools across the country now do not have any reason to stay away from school over lack of funds. This initiative, alone, is a big boost to President Kenyatta's Big Four agenda.
