Police in Uasin Gishu County arrested three suspects on Monday linked to a robbery at a house in Lavington Estate, Trans Nzoia last week.
According to Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Ayub Ali, the three suspects stole various items from a Kitale businessman.
The police who acted swiftly on a tip-off from residents recovered a Barreta pistol, 176 rounds of ammunition and electronics that the suspects stole from the businessman.
He noted that residents were worried after a pistol and the ammunition were stolen.
"The loss of the gun and the ammunition was a security threat. It is laudable that my officers managed to recover it. We believe the robbery at the businessman's house was an inside job," Ali said.
He cautioned business people in the area against recruiting anybody into their business without having proper background information about them.
He noted that some of them could be thugs sent to monitor their movements before launching a robbery.
“We are advising business people to vet those they recruit to avoid such incidences. There are dangerous characters out there out to rob them," added the police boss.
County Criminal Investigations Officer Grace Mauklupe advised residents and business people against handling stolen properties.
"We are investigating some people who are aiding thieves by buying stolen items from them," she warned.
