An alarm has been raised over the rise in defilement cases in Kisii County.
State counsel Peter Wainaina regretted that sex predators have been targeting underage girls.
"Cases of defilement are on the rise with several cases pending at Ogembo law courts where sex offenders have been taken for judgement. Too little is being done to curb the trend," he said.
According to Wainana, over 100 rape cases have been reported in the past ten months.
Mr. Wainaina reiterated that there is a need for members of the public to be sensitized through public forums on the importance of protecting minors.
"The public should be made aware through public forums such as barazas so that those engaging in illegal sex with minors can stop," he added.
He said Gucha region is the most hit with defilement cases.
"Elders in deep villages must stop defending sex predators. Sex offenders should face the rule of law to serve as an example to those doing the heinous acts to minors," Wainana noted.
Wainaina appealed to police not to condone married men chasing minors for sex.
