Pressure inside DP Ruto’s camp was accelerated by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to assign interior CS Dr Fred Matiangi powers to chair cabinet meetings in his absence.
This is a political loophole since part of the DP’s job is to take care of the president’s assignments when he is not present.
Some DP’s confidants feel that assigning Matiangi such a role is openly ignoring the DP.
It is a pandemonium especially to the CSs who are allied to the DP since some of them will definitely find it hard to be answerable to Matiangi.
Constitutionally, the DP is above CSs hence DP Ruto’s camp is really wondering how a CS can take a job that the DP is supposed to perform.
The fact that the DP and his hitmen have been fond of moving around the country lobbying for the government’s development programs means that part of that mandate now lie in Matiangi’s hands.
That is seemingly a message to DP Ruto’s camp from statehouse that they should desist from politicking prior to the 2022 presidential race.
President Uhuru recently appointed Matiangi to be chairing cabinet meetings every Thursday. This means the DP won’t be in a position to chair such meetings even when the president is not around.
