Kenyans who will be seeking services at the Department of Immigration will have to wait until Friday after services were suspended.
The Directorate of Immigration announced that passport services at the department have been suspended from Tuesday due to unavoidable circumstances.
The department however in its announcement said that normal services at the offices will resume on December 27, 2019.
While services are down, the department said there will be unscheduled maintenance of their system from Tuesday until Friday.
“We regret to announce to the general public that our passport services will be suspended from Tuesday, December 24 at 8 am due to unavoidable circumstances,” said the Department in a statement.
In June this year, the Immigration department had said that they will not issue passports to Kenyans who have no plans to travel out of the country.
The government had introduced the new e-passport database which is enhanced with an Automated Fingerprint Verification System to minimise identity theft, fraud, forgery and passport skimming.
Kenyans were urged to acquire the new e-passport as the government seeks to phase out the current non-electronic passports.
The government had on August 31 this year announced that Kenyans will no longer use the old-generation passport.
